Words of occasional wisdom from Bruce Oakley

Training schedule, race calendar

Posted by boakley59 on May 18, 2011

Beep beep. Roadrunners. I will keep our weekly training schedule on the new Run Coach page (top navigation bar), along with the calendar of upcoming local races. You will always have the basic information available at a glance. I will also use that page to compile links to various helpful sites. That will be our standard reference page.

Our current schedule has a new time of 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, this week at the Mickey Mouse pool lot starting Tuesday, May 24, at First United Methodist on Main, and at 8:30 a.m. Saturdays at the Batesville High School track. We should change locations every few weeks for the Tue-Thu runs, so that we get used to different race routes and terrain, and so we don’t wear out our welcome at any one site.

Click the following links for more information and registration forms for coming events in the area race calendar, one a month through September (also available at under Club and Local Race Info):

The June 4 event is a minimalist (no awards or trophies, probably no T-shirts or giveaways) timed run with choice of half-marathon (13 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles) starting at the DHS office in Moorefield. Registration donations will go toward developing area running trails. It’s billed as a chance for a longer organized event in the area, since there are so few 10K and half-marathons nearby. A few walkers from the clinic group are signed up for the 10K. A group from the White River Roadrunners will meet Saturday, May 21, at 7 a.m. at DHS-Moorefield to work out on the course.
